All I Want For Christmas Is You.

Mariah Carey's famous Christmas song 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' recently sold its millionth copy! OH JEEZ THAT'S CRAY CRAY RIGHT!  Reading this news in the newspaper, I knew I had to write about it. Before Getting Into Any Details, the basic information about the song always goes first!

  1. The song is originally performed by singer-songwriter Mariah Carey
  2. It was released by Columbia Records as the Lead Single from her Fourth studio album, Merry Christmas.
  3. Two videos were filmed for the song, both in the month of December 1993.

Released: 1994
Genre: Christmas, R&B, Pop

MY THOUGHTS ON THE SONG:

Well, I always used to feel that this song was overrated. Maybe I was wrong. As Christmas time came around, Christmas songs started to play (not on the radio though, cause I live in India) in my room. I've always been an over enthusiastic when it comes to festivals and so I just added this song to my sound could playlist. The next think I know is that the song is on repeat.

The upbeat Christmas themed love song with bell chimes and heavy back vocals, makes the atmosphere very festive whenever and wherever played. Mariah sounds absolutely breathtaking *sigh*.

I also really admire the lyrics of the song. How the protagonist says she does not not any material happiness for Christmas, but just wants to be with  her lover. The song is well written By Mariah Carey and Walter Afanasieff.

So to conclude, I can say that my first impression of the song was very wrong, and I still curse myself to think that way about a song that is so extremely festive and still touches your heart with the lyrics and the style of singing. I can listen to all types of music, but R&B has never been my favorite. This song has changed the way I feel for the whole genre and I can see myself playing it all year, and not only on Christmas.

"I Won't Ask For Much This Christmas,
I Won't Even Wish For Snow,

And I'm Just Gonna Keep On Waiting,

            Underneath The Mistletoe"
